Hi guys it’s Natalie on the the CDD blog today and I’m going to show you a step by step guide on how to make a partial die cut card.
I was watching a Jennifer Maguire video over Christmas and loved the card she created so had to try my own version with the adorable new
believe stamp from the latest release. I started out by cutting out a base for the card using the
crazy stitched frame dies. I then cut out 5 rectangles using the rectangle from the
fancy frame dies sticking them together one on top of each other. This will help us create pressure just on the parts we want to cut. Depending on your die cutting machine though will depends on the thickness of the card you need so it may be a case of just playing around don’t try and force anything through if it’s hard to get through use one less layer, if it’s not cutting you may need another layer.
So here we have the back of our base card and the rectangles we die cut and stuck together I placed the rectangle in the centre of the card and used post it tape to hold it in place. Then we want to turn our card over so we can cut out our clouds, I used the
stitched scallop dies for this, placing the cloud die around a third up from the bottom again post it tape it in to place we are ready for die cutting.
As you can see the die didn’t cut all way to the edge as there wasn’t enough pressure only where the rectangle of card was. Next we need to cut out the frame using the same rectangle we used to cut out earlier. Place it into position and post it tape it again. We will only be cutting above the clouds so you want to place your card into the machine like this..
As you can see the top cutting plate only comes down to the top of the clouds again this only gives the right amount of pressure in just the places we want to cut. your card should now look like this...
Now its time to work on the background I cut out another base card using the crazy stitched frames and used a blend of the
fossilized amber,
wild honey and
worn lipstick distress inks and finishing I off with a spritz of water to add some texture.
I then coloured up the sweet new unicorn from the believe stamp set using a range pf purple, pink and cool grey copic markers. Now its a case of sticking everything together I used foam tape on the clouds to add some dimension and placed it onto the oxide background the unicorn will now be on two levels so glue the bottom and add foam tape to the top the image so it sits flat. I then double mounted this onto some purple and grey card and attached it to my card base. Lastly it was time for some finishing touches with the
sherbert and shimmer sequins and adding some stars using a white gel pen. I hope you have enjoyed my card for today and I look forward to seeing your creations!
